What Endorsement Is
The ecclesiastical document the chaplaincy agency expects on file.
Ecclesiastical endorsement is the document the chaplain's faith body issues to an employing agency confirming the candidate is an ordained minister in good standing within that faith body. The agency does not vet the chaplain's doctrine or ministry directly. The agency reads the endorsement letter and trusts the endorsing body's review. That is the role AEGA plays for AEGA-credentialed chaplains.
Ecclesiastical endorsement is the document a chaplain candidate's faith body issues to confirm the candidate is an ordained minister in good standing whose Spirit-filled doctrine has been examined and recommended for chaplain service. Federal and civilian chaplain-employing agencies require this document. AEGA Ministries International is approved by the Pentagon as an Endorsing Ecclesiastical Organization, approved by the VA to endorse VA Chaplains, an approved endorsing agent for all federal prisons, and a member of AFCB, NAE, and NCMAF.
Where Endorsement Is Required
Six chaplain settings that require ecclesiastical endorsement.
Ecclesiastical endorsement is the universal layer chaplain-employing agencies require from the chaplain candidate's faith body. AEGA endorses across military, VA, federal prison, hospital and hospice, law enforcement and fire, and Civil Air Patrol chaplaincy.
Military chaplaincy.
The Armed Forces Chaplain Board requires an endorsement letter from a recognized endorsing ecclesiastical organization. AEGA is approved by the Pentagon as one such organization.
VA chaplaincy.
The Department of Veterans Affairs requires the VA Endorsement Form from the chaplain's faith body. AEGA is approved by the VA to endorse VA Chaplains.
Federal prison chaplaincy.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons requires an endorsement from a recognized endorsing agent. AEGA is an approved endorsing agent for all federal prisons.
Hospital and hospice chaplaincy.
Hospitals, hospice agencies, and health-care systems require ecclesiastical endorsement alongside any CPE units and educational requirements they layer in.
Law enforcement and fire chaplaincy.
Most police and fire departments require full ordination and ecclesiastical endorsement for chaplains.
Civil Air Patrol chaplaincy.
CAP chaplains are professionally qualified, endorsed clergy. CAP requires ecclesiastical endorsement alongside CAP Senior Member onboarding (fingerprint card, background check, national and local dues).
How AEGA's Endorsement Works
Ordained minister first. Endorsement letter second.
To receive an AEGA ecclesiastical endorsement, a candidate must first complete the ministerial credential application and be approved as an Ordained Minister. The Board of Examiners reviews doctrine, references, and ministry experience for the Ordained Minister tier. AEGA mails the Constitution and Bylaws for review before a thorough review by the Credential Committee covering doctrinal alignment, references, and ministry experience. Once approved as an Ordained Minister, the candidate requests an endorsement letter for the specific chaplaincy track. AEGA prepares the letter on AEGA letterhead, naming the candidate as an ordained AEGA minister in good standing and confirming AEGA's status as an approved endorser for the relevant federal or civilian agency. AEGA remains the chaplain's endorser through the chaplain's tenure, with annual fellowship renewal and the Chaplain Annual Report Form filed each May 1. Endorsement is not a one-time stamp; it is a covenant relationship.
Why AEGA
A covenant fellowship behind every endorsement letter.
AEGA carries chaplains across decades of service. The fellowship's four pillars hold through duty-station change, command rotation, and the long arc of chaplaincy.
Covering.
Biblical, spiritual accountability that protects chaplains and affirms their God-given assignment. Where there is no accountability, there is no responsibility. AEGA endorsement carries covering through the chaplain's full career.
Community.
A relational fellowship where chaplains are known by name. The Grapevine monthly newsletter. The Annual Conference Retreat. A special seminar and reception for chaplain spouses each year.
Coaching.
Practical leadership development and continuing education. The Annual Conference Retreat carries CTE sessions on Saturday afternoon with special speakers on subjects relevant to chaplain ministry. Up to 3.0 CEUs per attendance.
Credibility.
Approved by the Pentagon. Approved by the VA. Approved endorsing agent for all federal prisons. Member of AFCB, NAE, and NCMAF. The endorsement letter the federal and civilian chaplaincy agencies expect on file.
Federal Recognition · The AEGA Standing
Approved by the Pentagon, the VA, and as an endorsing agent for all federal prisons.
AEGA is approved by the Pentagon as an Endorsing Ecclesiastical Organization with the United States of America Military Chaplaincy Program. AEGA is approved by the VA to endorse VA Chaplains. The AEGA Fellowship is an approved endorsing agent for all federal prisons. AEGA is a member of the Armed Forces Chaplain Board (AFCB), the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), and the National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces (NCMAF). This standing is what gives the AEGA endorsement letter its weight. From an AEGA-Endorsed Chaplain
"I went to the International Minister's Conference to see if I could sense the vision of AEGA. I not only sensed it, but I also wanted to be a part of it."

Frequently Asked
Ecclesiastical endorsement, answered.
What is ecclesiastical endorsement?
Ecclesiastical endorsement is the document a chaplain candidate's faith body issues to confirm the candidate is an ordained minister in good standing whose doctrine and ministry have been examined and recommended for chaplain service. Federal and civilian chaplain-employing agencies require it as the ecclesiastical layer of the chaplain's file.
Who issues ecclesiastical endorsement?
An ecclesiastical endorsement is issued by the chaplain candidate's recognized faith body. AEGA Ministries International is approved by the Pentagon as an Endorsing Ecclesiastical Organization, approved by the VA to endorse VA Chaplains, and an approved endorsing agent for all federal prisons. AEGA is also a member of AFCB, NAE, and NCMAF.
What credentials must I have to be endorsed?
AEGA Ordained Minister credentials. AEGA's ordination credential is the prerequisite the endorsement is built on.
Does AEGA endorsement cover multiple chaplaincy tracks?
Yes. AEGA endorses across military, VA, federal prison, hospital, hospice, law enforcement, fire, and Civil Air Patrol chaplaincy. Ministers transitioning between tracks do not need to switch endorsers.
Is ecclesiastical endorsement the same as ordination?
No. Ordination is the credential the faith body issues to recognize the minister. Ecclesiastical endorsement is a separate document the faith body issues to a chaplaincy agency confirming the minister is in good standing and recommended for chaplain service. Most chaplaincy agencies require both.
How long does the endorsement letter take?
Endorsement letters are prepared by the AEGA office once an applicant is approved as an Ordained Minister. The credential review itself is the long pole; most credentials are issued within three to five weeks. Once approved, the endorsement letter follows within days. The annual renewal cycle includes the Chaplain Annual Report Form, with a May 1 deadline each year.
