Expectation Overshadowed…

At times I have difficulty maintaining a spirit of expectation, at least for a long period of time. The problem lies in the delay. I can readily receive the excitement and anticipation that the promise of something brings. But as time passes things began to enter my thinking that overshadow the expectancy I was experiencing.
An example is fall. I love the colors of fall. I like the way people begin to move with purpose toward upcoming school events and holidays. It as if everything begins to settle into its normal place. But soon as I began to think how nice it will be to see the trees turn into bright colors, the thought of winter soon following crowds in. I hate cold weather, have no purpose for snow in my life and the darkness of the winter skies is almost more than I can bear. So before I know it my expectation of coming fall is drown out by the bleakness of the winter that will quickly follow.
The same can happen in spiritual matters if we are not careful. We can get excited about the things God has spoken to us. But often those things have lag time between when HE spoke and when they appear. During that time if we do not act diligently the enemy will provide ideas on how it will not be as wonderful as we think or be as enduring as we hope and will certainly not come as quickly as we believe.
When these thoughts cloud our thinking we must valiantly hold on to the promise we have received. Knowing that HE who promised will not only do what HE said but much more. We must nurse the visions God gives us as carefully as we would a baby. We must protect the dreams from the intruder. We must not let our holy expectations be overshadowed by the darkness of the enemy.
Hope to see you in a Tea Room soon,
Elizabeth
