What Is a Certificate of Ordination
The document that proves a minister has been recognized.
An ordination certificate is the artifact. The credential itself is a relationship within a covenant fellowship of ministers. AEGA prints the document, signs it, and mails it because civil governments and federal agencies need a piece of paper. The deeper recognition is what the certificate represents: a minister has been examined, called, and covered by a Spirit-filled fellowship that has been credentialing ministers for forty-nine years.
A certificate of ordination is the printed document issued by a credentialing religious body that confirms an individual has been examined, recognized, and set apart as a minister of the gospel. The AEGA certificate of ordination is signed by the Board of Examiners and accompanied by a wallet credential card. It is the document county clerks, hospital chaplaincy offices, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Defense Armed Forces Chaplains Board, the VA, the IRS, and foreign consular officers expect to see when a minister presents under that title.
What the AEGA Certificate Includes
Seven fields on every certificate.
Every AEGA certificate of ordination carries the same seven elements. The Board of Examiners reviews each field before the certificate is signed.
Minister's full legal name.
The name as it appears on government-issued identification. Name changes require a separate update request and a replacement certificate.
Credential tier.
Ministerial Apprentice, Christian Worker, Licensed Minister, or Ordained Minister. The tier determines what authority the certificate carries.
Date of credential issue.
The active date the credential becomes valid. For Ordained Minister certificates this is also the date used in chaplaincy endorsement and consular files.
Credential identification number.
A unique number tied to the minister's record. Used for verification when a hospital, chaplaincy office, or government agency calls AEGA to confirm standing.
Board of Examiners signature.
Signed by the chair of the AEGA Board of Examiners. The signature is what makes the document an ecclesiastical instrument and not a printed claim.
AEGA Ministries International seal.
The seal of the fellowship. Recognized on federal endorsing-agent paperwork and at U.S. consulates abroad.
Wallet credential card.
A pocket-sized card carrying the minister's name, tier, identification number, and the AEGA logo. Carried for routine verification at hospitals and county clerk offices.
What the Certificate Authorizes
Where the document opens doors.
County clerk wedding officiation. The certificate is what a county clerk verifies when recording a signed marriage license.
Federal endorsing-agent file. The DoD Armed Forces Chaplains Board, the VA, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons keep a copy in the chaplain endorsement file.
Hospital chaplaincy file. Required for civilian chaplaincy credentialing across major U.S. hospital systems.
Immigration and visa files. U.S. consulates and foreign-service religious-engagement officers verify the document for R-1 religious-worker visas and for U.S.-credentialed ministers serving abroad.
State court testimony. Establishes a minister's standing when called as an officiant, chaplain witness, or pastoral counselor.
IRS ministerial housing-allowance recognition. The certificate supports a church-employer's designation of a §107 housing allowance.
Why AEGA
A covenant fellowship of ministers. Not a denomination.
The certificate matters because the body that issued it matters. AEGA exists so that no minister has to do ministry alone, and the document carries the weight of forty-nine years of continuous standing behind it.
Covering.
Biblical, spiritual accountability that protects ministers and affirms their God-given assignment. Where there is no accountability, there is no responsibility.
Community.
A relational fellowship where ministers are known by name, not by file number. The Board of Examiners reviews every certificate before it is signed.
Coaching.
Practical leadership development and ministry support for growth in anointing and assignment. The certificate is the entry point, not the destination.
Credibility.
Recognition and endorsement that opens doors. AEGA is recognized by the Department of Defense, the VA, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and every major U.S. hospital chaplaincy program, and through more than 60 countries where AEGA carries affiliated ministry.

Frequently Asked
Certificate of ordination, answered.
What is a certificate of ordination?
A certificate of ordination is the printed document issued by a credentialing religious body confirming that an individual has been examined, recognized, and set apart as a minister of the gospel. The AEGA certificate of ordination is signed by the Board of Examiners and accompanied by a wallet credential card. It is the document county clerks, hospital chaplaincy offices, federal endorsing agents, the IRS, and foreign consular officers verify when a minister presents under that title.
How do I get a certificate of ordination from AEGA?
Apply for the appropriate AEGA credential tier (Ministerial Apprentice, Christian Worker, Licensed Minister, or Ordained Minister). The Board of Examiners reviews the application within three to five weeks. The printed certificate and wallet card are mailed once the credential is approved.
I lost my certificate. How do I get a replacement?
Contact AEGA at 1-800-842-5176 or info@aega.org. State that the certificate has been lost. The office processes a reprint, charges a reprint fee, and mails a replacement certificate and wallet card. Typical turnaround is under two weeks.
I changed my name. Can I update my certificate?
Yes. Contact AEGA with a copy of the legal name-change document (marriage certificate, court order). The office issues a corrected certificate carrying the new legal name and the original credential issue date. The replacement is mailed within two weeks of receipt of the supporting document.
Does the certificate of ordination expire?
The certificate itself does not carry an expiration date. Standing within the fellowship is maintained through annual credential renewal. A hospital, chaplaincy office, or federal agency that calls AEGA to verify the document is asking about current standing, not certificate age. Renew a credential →
